Job Description

As a Field Technician for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC), you'll be part of a highly trained and experienced team in our Toledo, Ohio location and work on a variety of projects. The majority of your time will be spent in the field at project sites. Project related activities will be performed under the supervision of project managers and will primarily include the following:
  • Performing construction observation to monitor progress and ensure compliance with engineering plans, specifications, and construction safety standards;
  • Completing various survey activities such as construction/grade staking and as-built surveys;
  • Performing groundwater, surface water, and air sampling activities at solid waste and industrial facilities;
  • Operating and maintaining various field equipment;
  • Completing documentation of field activities; and
  • Direct interaction with clients and subcontractors.


  • 0-4 years' experience in construction observation, surveying, or related field;
  • Experience with land survey techniques using robotic and GPS equipment;
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar drafting software;
  • Mechanical skills and attention to detail;
  • Valid driver's license, willingness to travel, and ability to drive a pickup truck;
  • Ability to lift heavy field equipment in adverse field conditions; and
  • Ability to work independently in the field in varying weather conditions with strict adherence to operating procedures and safety policies.

Here's What We'd Like To See:
  • 40-hr HAZWOPER training and 8-hr refresher (if applicable);
  • Certified and experienced user of a soil density gauge;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; and
  • Ability to speak and write professionally.
