Job Description
Purpose

Efficiently execute various levels of drafting and analysis utility and commercial scale PV design projects with a team of engineers and various project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction
  • Receive general instruction on key objectives for execution. Receive direction as needed, and especially on complex assignments, modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria. Work is completed using standard engineering techniques and design principles. Review work by junior staff for quality assurance.

At the Operational and Company Level
  • Assist with the marketing of the firm's capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships.

Do the Work
  • Participate in the design and development of electrical plan sets, including site layouts and equipment details.
  • Learn and enhance plan-set templates, standards, and best practices.
  • Draft equipment layouts, installation details, and single-line diagrams (PV, MV, Auxiliary Power, Monitoring, etc.).
  • Coordinate with design engineers and collaborate with sub-consultants as needed.
  • Coordinate the design of interconnections with licensed Engineers.
  • Identify issues on projects and collaborate with the client, co-workers, and others to execute effective solutions.
  • Interact with team members, clients, vendors, installation contractors, and others to create efficient and cohesive designs.
  • Generate Single Line Diagrams under the supervision of Sr. Design Engineers.
  • Report the status of progress on each project to Senior Managers on a weekly or daily basis as needed. Attend weekly management meetings
  • Appropriately request technical support as needed on projects and keep on schedule.
  • Occasionally provide estimates of time to perform tasks.
  • Apply broad knowledge of engineering principles and procedures. .
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, project manager, and the client.
  • Conduct field observations visits to accurately document the existing field conditions.
  • Organize/prioritize multiple tasks to complete the design in a sequential efficient manner.
  • Complete electrical calculations under the supervision of Sr. Design engineers.
  • Accurately produce the project construction documents to meet milestone schedules within a predetermined hourly budget.
  • Attend coordination and design meetings, as needed.
  • Address comments from clients, AHJ's & other review authorities; adjust designs accordingly under the supervision of Sr. Design Engineer.
  • If directed, review all project related construction administrative items (shop drawings, RFI's, construction submittals).
  • Work within established project budgets.
  • Possess and continue to develop a working knowledge of all codes applicable to the discipline.
  • Possess and continue to develop a working knowledge of AutoCAD software.

Education, Work Experience, Licensure/Certifications, and Technical Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related engineering discipline required at time of employment.
  • Entry level position, no prior experience required. Any professional experience is a plus.
  • NABCEP Certified PV Installation Professional preferred
  • High proficiency in AutoCAD required.
  • Experience with PV system modeling software such as PVsyst, Helioscope and/or Homer desired.
  • Ability to perform shading analyses is highly desirable.
  • Energy storage system design experience is highly desirable.
  • Ability to communicate technical knowledge in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Physical Demands and Working Environment
  • Partially indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Partially outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
  • Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
  • Lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
