Overview

As a full-time Bat Biologist and Ecologist with Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC), you'll work with project teams on bat presence/absence surveys, radio-tracking, emergence surveys, and habitat assessments. You'll independently lead a two-person crew and conduct summer mist-net and/or acoustic surveys for federally- and state-listed bat species throughout the U.S. You may also analyze bat recordings and produce findings reports.

This position is ideal for a detail-oriented, motivated, and enthusiastic biologist who enjoys working outdoors on a variety of projects in a wide range of settings. Field work entails hiking to and from survey sites with heavy equipment in varying terrain day and night with inclement weather possible. The position will be based out of our Pittsburgh or Indianapolis office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a natural sciences field (e.g., Biology, Environmental Sciences, Ecology);
  • Possession of a valid scientific collecting permit to conduct surveys for federally listed bat species (Indiana, northern long-eared, and/or gray bats) or have the qualifications to be added to CEC's federal bat permit;
  • Pre-exposure rabies vaccination;
  • Experience leading mist-netting surveys;
  • Experience setting acoustic detectors for survey and data download ;
  • Experience handling and identifying bats of the eastern U.S.;
  • Willingness to travel throughout the U.S. for extended periods of time and work long hours (10+hour days), including weekends, in potentially remote areas;
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude while conducting fieldwork with frequently changing schedules;
  • Ability to carry heavy equipment (50 lbs) over long distances (at least 1/2 mile).
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.

Additional Experience:
