Job Description
DEA's Portland, OR office is hiring for a Bridge Engineer/Project Manager to support transportation related projects. A successful candidate will have experience with bridge inspection and/or bridge load rating practices. In this role, you will perform tasks and procedures necessary to plan and execute bridge and tunnel inspection work orders and stand-alone projects. You will also perform structural analyses and develop calculations using the AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation and other codes for structural load ratings. Additionally, a successful candidate will have knowledge of bridge design procedures and AASHTO LRFD and Standard Specifications. Typical projects will include bridge and tunnel inspections for reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete, steel, and timber structures, as well as load ratings for bridges of all types and sizes.

Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Organizing information for use in project documents
  • Assisting or leading bridge projects by creating inspection reports, load rating summaries, concept reports, and Type, Size and Location reports
  • Performing condition inspections of existing bridges
  • Generating and editing bridge inspection reports
  • Assisting or leading bridge rehabilitation and maintenance projects
  • Managing small to medium sized bridge inspection, load rating, or preservation projects
  • Assisting or leading the development of engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and estimates
  • Reviewing contractor submittals during construction

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • Minimum 7 years of applicable bridge inspection, load rating, and/or design experience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Oregon
  • Successful completion of NHI 130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service bridges, or NHI-approved equivalent
  • Proficiency in current bridge inspection and management software, to include AASHTOWare BrM
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with a heavy emphasis on Excel and Word
  • Knowledgeable in current bridge load rating or analysis software platforms to include CSiBridge, BRASS, Midas Civil, and/or AASHTOWare BrR
  • Knowledgeable in other current structural design software applications, with an emphasis on bridge design software, such as SAP2000, Midas Civil, LARSA 4D, PG Super, Conspan and/or LPile
  • Knowledgeable in MathCAD
  • Knowledgeable in drafting software application such as Microstation, AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Physically able to work outside in a variety of weather conditions
  • Ability to communicate and work in a team-oriented environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • Knowledge of AASHTO and representative state DOT bridge design standards
  • Proficiency in current bridge load rating or analysis software platforms to include CSiBridge, BRASS, Midas Civil, and/or AASHTOWare BrR
  • Proficiency in MathCAD
  • Successful completion of NHI 130078 Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges
  • Registered with ODOT as an approved Bridge Inspection Team Leader
