David Evans and Associates, Inc. (DEA) is looking for a Chief sUAS Pilot / Geospatial Specialist to be based near one of our office locations in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Colorado, California, Utah, or Nevada.

Position Duties:
  • Promote sUAS mapping and inspection capabilities throughout the company
  • Provide sUAS presentations, demonstrations, marketing support, estimates, and proposals
  • Promote sUAS training and updates based on our current 3-Tier sUAS Certification program
  • Conduct Remote Pilot reviews, check flights, and ongoing qualifications tracking
  • Oversee system updates and maintenance of our sUAS fleet, controllers, and sensors
  • Coordinate ground and flight operations including mission planning, briefing, execution, debriefing, and data acquisition
  • Conduct data processing for imagery and point cloud workflows
  • Conduct data adjustment, feature extraction, surface modeling, and prepare CAD/GIS compatible products
  • Coordinate with Surveyors, Engineers, Scientists, and Construction Inspectors for desired sUAS deliverables
  • Ensure compliance with company policy, industry best practices, and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations
  • Develop and verify operational and safety procedures for new sUAS aircraft, platforms, features, or sensors
  • Knowledge of various unmanned aerial system hardware and software
  • Basic experience with GPS surveying techniques for aerial ground control and topographic quality verification


Basic Qualifications:
  • 200+ sUAS flight hours
  • 1 year of sUAS mapping experience
  • Knowledge and experience operating in US airspace
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
  • Experience in ArcGIS, Civil 3D, Pix4D, and GlobalMapper
  • Surveying experience with Trimble GNSS for control layout
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Willing to travel to remote locations throughout the Northwest
  • Responsible for observing current laws, regulations, and safety in all operations
  • Promote and refine established company operating procedures and practices
  • Willing to train and mentor new pilots through all established tiers of experience


Desired Qualifications:
  • 500+ sUAS flight hours
  • 3-5 years of sUAS mapping experience
  • Bentley Systems experience with MicroStation, TopoDot, ContextCapture
  • LiDAR experience with airborne or mobile platforms
  • Thermal, multispectral, or hyperspectral experience
  • Postprocessing and RTK acquisition with DJI drones and LiDAR sensors
  • FAA Private Pilot License and/or Helicopter Pilot License
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline
  • Experience or Certification as a Photogrammetrist
  • Land Survey Intern or Professional Land Surveyor
