Purpose

Assist project Resident Engineer in the inspection and documentation various construction engineering projects including various types of civil engineering.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction
  • Perform work under very limited supervision requiring the need to exercise independent judgement and discretion on a regular or frequent basis.

At the Operational and Company Level
  • Work closely with more senior members to learn about and assist with construction engineering elements.
  • Assist with the marketing of the firm's capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships.

Do the Work
  • Read and comprehend contract drawings, standard drawings, and specifications.
  • Identify, report and document construction activities in compliance or not in compliance with contract documents.
  • Measure, document, and calculate quantities of project work performed.
  • Gather data and make decisions based upon engineering principles.
  • Write technical reports to document daily construction activities.

Education, Work Experience, Licensure/Certifications, and Technical Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field.
  • Zero to three (0-3) years' relevant industry-related experience.
  • CPM scheduling knowledge and estimating abilities preferred.
  • Desire to learn construction engineering principles, techniques, and procedures.
  • Flexibility to work inside or outside at any given time of the year.
  • Basic understanding of the material properties of soil, aggregates, concrete, and bituminous mixes.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Civil3D strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam preferred.

Physical Demands and Working Environment
  • Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Occasional outdoor work environment which may include adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
  • Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.

This position may be filled at a higher level depending on experience.
