Job Description
DEA is looking to add a Construction Inspector to ourFreight Rail group. This position will work on-site on construction projects in the greater Los Angeles area primarily, however, extended travel to project locations outside of California will be required for some projects. DEA's Freight Rail construction services include project administration, project management, and quality assurance oversight. As a Construction Inspector, you will provide assistance to the project Engineering staff in the form of construction observation and inspection. This work includes observation of construction work activities for compliance with plans and specifications, preparation of required field reports and following Quality Assurance/ Quality Control procedures consistent with project guidelines. Construction Inspector may also be required to assist office staff with project planning and coordination tasks.

  • Perform observations and inspections of in-progress civil construction work related to mass earthwork, railroad construction, bridge and structures, and other civil improvements.
  • Inspect and document that project is constructed in conformance with plans and specifications. Identify discrepancies where they exist.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of work performed, for project tracking and construction progress payments.
  • Prepare and distribute daily and weekly field reports.
  • Ensure quality control testing is performed at specific intervals and results meet or exceed the project requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with Contractors, Owners, Construction Manager or Engineering Staff.
  • Communicate construction issues through the Resident Engineer, and collaborate with multiple parties to resolve issues during construction.
  • Coordinate and facilitate construction meetings, as requested by the Resident Engineer.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Ability to read and comprehend plans, specifications and instructions.
  • Ability to travel on a per project basis.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and in various terrain.
  • Ability to work effectively with client representatives and contractors, and possess good verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills in Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work independently, effectively multitask and prioritize work, and track issues to completion.
  • Ability to obtain eRailsafe certification.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Industry Certifications (ACI, NICET, etc.)
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management discipline
  • Previous railroad construction experience.
  • Previous construction or inspection experience with earthwork or structural components.
  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Certification
