Your Impact at SAM

The Corporate Controller is responsible for the transactional and GL processes, as well as personnel within the Accounting group, including GL, billing, collections, payroll, AP and travel. This position supports and partners with Operations with regard to financial and project performance.
  • Direct GL and transactional processes, including monthly and annual accounting close processes, billing, collections, payroll, AP and travel functions;
  • Partner with Operations on financial and project performance including other needs related to project management;
  • Prepare profit and cost center analysis for various projects/customers/departments/end markets and subsidiaries;
  • Provide insights into operating variances and identify emerging issues;
  • Partner with other Accounting and Finance management to prepare the internal and external financial reporting, cash management and ensure resources for annual audits with independent auditors;
  • Review and approve work-in process report and close jobs for costing prior to integration to financial statements;
  • Provide guidance on GAAP issues that ensures consistent application of accounting standards on a period over period basis;
  • Provide recommendations and drive accounting process improvements and internal controls enhancements;
  • Manage Accounting related activities for system changes and incorporate acquired businesses;
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to help accomplish the Company's strategic goals;
  • This position has direct supervisory responsibilities of employees to include mentoring, coaching, and counseling staff as needed.

What You Bring to SAM

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required
  • 10 plus years of controller level experience
  • 5 plus years of experience in the A-E-C industry
  • Working knowledge of FAR/CAS compliance
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel software skills
  • Experience with Ajera or BST accounting systems or similar project-based accounting system is a very strong plus
  • Able to handle procedures and functions of a multi-discipline and multi-state organization
  • Willingness to be "hands-on" if necessary is a requirement
  • Experience with outsourced, cloud-based payroll systems preferred
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills enabling a discussion of financial mattes across a range of both financial and non-financial management levels
  • CPA is required
