Purpose

Responsible for the engineering function of assigned business unit.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Direction
  • Receive broad guidance from senior-level management relating to overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters and general parameters for execution. Manage people and processes to ensure effective execution. Review work produced by staff for quality assurance.
  • Provide oversight and direction of department or business unit including strategy, budgeting, staff, and deliverables.

At the Operational and Company Level
  • Assist with marketing of the firm's capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships with existing developers, builders, and government agencies.
  • Be responsible for business development activities for current and prospective clients.
  • Coordinate with other internal departments to meet project requirements.
  • Act as advisor to engineering team regarding projects, tasks, and operations.

Do the Work
  • Hire, train, retain, and develop engineering staff.
  • Oversee all projects in the department to ensure that the work is executed on time and on budget and in accordance with the client's requirements and within company policies and procedures.
  • Provide work assignments and review performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.
  • Research and collect outstanding monies due from clients.
  • Keep current on engineering trends and developments to recommend changes in program or design methods.

Education, Work Experience, Licensure/Certifications, and Technical Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related discipline.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Fifteen or more (15+) years of experience in land development to include project management, supervision and client relationships.
  • Experience in managing processes and people.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing the financial, marketing, human resources and operational aspects of an engineering department.
  • Demonstrated experience with reading construction plans and using computer applications and design software.

Physical Demands and Working Environment
  • Primarily indoor professional office environment which may include exposure to bright/dim light, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility around an office environment.
  • Some outdoor work environment which may include exposure to outside weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or potential hazards.
  • Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Primarily local travel during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required according to the needs of the business.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder.
