Job Requirements
The Director, Enterprise Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applies an interdisciplinary approach to manage and support priority projects, initiatives, and staff across National Audubon Society and its network. Reporting to the VP & Chief Scientist, s/he is responsible for managing an enterprise GIS consisting of server, desktop, cloud, and mobile infrastructure. The Director will also work to develop standards for GIS deployment and use, as well as provide oversight to enterprise GIS staff and fellows through Audubon’s Dangermond fund, ensuring they receive guidance and mentoring while accomplishing the duties of their roles. Additionally, s/he acts as the interface between Audubon, partners, and other parties in GIS-related interests and represents the Science Division at a variety of meetings, trainings and important events to further enterprise GIS projects and initiatives.

Essential Functions:

Along with the Chief Scientist and Director of Geospatial Science, provide strategic thinking on priority projects to utilize appropriate GIS solutions to maximize conservation impact.
Represent Audubon as a leader in Enterprise GIS in professional meetings, conferences, and with partners and other parties.
Act as the subject matter expert for the organization on GIS-related topics and provide vision for GIS-related applications and solutions.
Effectively manage enterprise GIS staff to ensure objectives and time lines are met; provide mentoring and supervision to the Dangermond fellow cohort each year.
Assist in the development and management of GIS project plans including defining requirements, tasks, and resource assignments.
Manages coordination with other entities both internal and external on GIS-related matters.
Develop and manage an enterprise GIS, to include:
Utilize commercial-of-the-shelf solutions for GIS.
Oversee licensing agreements with vendor(s) and license distribution system.
Administer user accounts and access permissions.
Act as lead on the database management system administration tasks.
Maintain, develop, deploy and manage the server.
Cloud and server hardware management and utilization.
Develop standards and best practices for the organization’s GIS data, systems, and staff.
Develop and maintain authoritative datasets in enterprise database management systems (versioning, replicas, backup, permissions).
Create and maintain workflows for GIS user and software management (including desktop deployment, AGOL user group, publishers).
Assist all users in developing and maintaining content that meets organization standards (FGDC compliant metadata etc.).
Manage a help desk issue tracking system and streamline services to create greater efficiency across Audubon’s network.
Provide training standards, support, and administration in GIS for end users.
