DEA's Energy Business Unit is currently hiring a Distribution Designer to work out of our Puget Sound Region. The responsibilities for this position will include working closely with project engineers and project managers on multidiscipline project teams providing electrical engineering and technical knowledge. The position entails performing detailed design of distribution systems.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
  • Learn and interpret maps and blueprints
  • Use AutoCAD to develop plan drawings
  • Will work under supervision applying prescribed methods and standard electrical engineering practices while performing specific tasks within projects and assisting other engineering staff on more complex projects
  • Perform design coordination, drawing reviews, and create mark-ups
  • Perform site visits to create sketches, red lines, and gather information for as-builts
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines as required. Foster constructive communication between disciplines
  • Outline, set up, organize, and maintain project drawings according to applicable standards
  • Maintain accurate records and files and a high level of organization

Basic Qualifications:
  • Up to (2) years of experience as an electric utility or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to do the work.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD or MicroStation
  • Ability to effectively interact with project and work teams.
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations while maintaining focus and calmness.
  • Ability to provide timely assessments with limited information and/or assumptions.
  • Ability to work in a team, maintain project timelines, and budgets, and deliver on commitments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written forms; make decisions with guidance in accordance with established policies and procedures and use initiative and judgment in completing tasks and responsibilities in a timely and accurate manner; identify and solve problems; become familiar with industry-specific terminology and symbology; maintain a high level of attention-to-detail.
  • Microsoft Office software programs (advanced); basic math; operation of office equipment, surveying techniques and procedures; and technical writing and communications

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2 or more years of experience in distribution line design.
  • Engineering principles used in electrical utility system; RUS specifications and work order procedures; NESC and NEC regulations; legal descriptions, easements, and the permit application process; understanding of computer modeling of electric systems; essentials of algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Competency in Spida Calc, Pole Foreman, O-Calc or other similar design programs.
