Overview

As a Roadway/Transportation Engineer for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC), you will be responsible for leading and preparing roadway and highway plans, specifications, cost estimates on public works, large infrastructure, DOT, and design-build projects throughout the Southwest. At CEC, you will lead and mentor a roadway design team for the successful completion of project tasks. The ideal candidate will have a knowledge of geomatics, cross-sections, grading, utility relocations, drainage, traffic control, and associated landscaping. Your expertise in roadway engineering will contribute technical leadership to a multi-disciplinary infrastructure team.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the roadway design efforts for projects, including the preparation of plans and specifications for construction packages;
  • Collaborate closely with the project managers, engineers, and contractors to develop efficient and constructible solutions that align with project goals and timelines;
  • Review and approve shop drawings and construction documents to ensure accurate translation of design intent during the construction phase;
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the construction team during the execution of roadway work, responding to inquiries and resolving on-site design-related challenges;
  • Collaborate with project management to monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables;
  • A ssist with the identification and recruitment of key personnel and mentoring/training the Civil staff to assure professional growth and development ;
  • Assist with business development and preparation of proposals for public works pursuits;
  • Assure project deliverables meet quality requirements.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field;
  • Minimum 8+ years' experience in roadway design, preferably large public works or similar infrastructure projects ;
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Civil engineering;
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of industry codes and standards;
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D (Microstation is a plus);
  • Ability to work with a multi-disciplined staff of project managers, engineers, and field inspectors;
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry best practices and familiarity with relevant codes and regulations governing construction projects;
  • Effective communication skills to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders;
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop innovative and practical design solutions;
  • Ability to work safely, collaboratively, and proactively in a team environment. Design-build team experience is a plus;
  • Adaptability and flexibility to accommodate changes in project scope and evolving design requirements ;
  • Ability to perform field/site visits;
  • Ability to develop and mentor staff;
  • Ability to prepare proposals and manage project execution;
  • Ability to interface with clients, network, and develop business.
