Job Description
DEA's Seattle area (Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma, or Olympia) offices is hiring a Senior Bridge Engineer/ Project Manager to lead and perform technical bridge and related transportation structural engineering, perform project management, and participate in business development and leadership activities. The successful candidate will be able to assist project teams through the completion of various projects and task assignments in the role of Engineer, Task Leader, Checker, or Project Manager. This person will perform and/or check structural analyses and develop or check design calculations using AASHTO and other design codes for a variety of bridge, transportation, and transit structural systems. Areas of work include bridge planning, design, construction engineering, in-service inspection, load ratings, and preservation and rehabilitation projects.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Manage and lead development of bridge design deliverables including reports, design calculations, construction plans, specifications, estimates, construction schedules, and load ratings
  • Checking of reports, design calculations, construction plans, specifications, estimates, construction schedules, and load ratings for accuracy and compliance with contractual requirements as part of DEA's Quality Management practices
  • Manage bridge and multi-discipline projects to ensure excellence in project execution for on-time, on-budget deliverables of high quality
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert in areas of bridge and related transportation structural engineering
  • Develop project approaches, or develop and implement project execution plans
  • Develop project staffing plans, participate in group workload planning, assist in managing backlog and informing business unit staffing decisions
  • Delegate project tasks to teams, provide technical guidance to team members
  • Work closely with project engineers, designers, technicians, and other project managers on multidiscipline project teams
  • Participate in client and project development teams
  • Serve as a pursuit champion as appropriate and serve pursuit teams in the development of proposal documents
  • Communicate with clients and express client's needs to project teams
  • Mentoring and training junior and mid-level staff on career development for project and task management and delivery
  • Being a part of the office and group leadership charged with creating a functional, efficient, productive, and enjoyable work environment
  • Identifying technical resources needed to deliver projects successfully and coordinate staffing needs with Bridge and Structures group and team leaders
  • Accountability for performance management for team members and applicable administration approvals such as time off, timecards, expense reports, training, etc.
  • Lead or coordinate the QA/QC process for structural projects
  • Work as an effective "seller/doer" building long term and growing relationships with clients through execution of excellent work products, clear communication, and clarity of expectations
  • Directly manage projects and support staff in project development and delivery, including scoping, budgeting, contract negotiations and project execution
  • Successful recruitment and retention efforts including support processes that encourage staff longevity
  • Some travel may be required

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Minimum 15 years of bridge engineering experience
  • Minimum 2 years project manager experience on transportation projects
  • Registered Professional Structural Engineer (SE) in Washington, or the ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Knowledgeable of AASHTO and Washington Department of Transportation bridge design standards
  • Proficiency in structural design software applications, with an emphasis on bridge design software, such as MathCAD, SAP2000/CSIBridge, Midas Civil, PG Super, MDX, LPile, BRASS
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project
  • Applicant must have a valid driver's license and clear motor vehicle report
  • Ability to communicate and work in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to market DEA structural engineering services directly to potential clients

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering
  • Structural design, including seismic design, and project management experience working with local agencies in the Puget Sound Region, or with the Washington Department of Transportation
  • Currently Registered Professional Structural Engineer (SE) in Washington
  • Experience working and managing projects and teams as a structural engineering consultant
  • Supervisory experience
