“This report reinforces that the best jobs are highly-skilled and are staying ahead of the growing trend toward workplace automation. Nearly half the list is comprised of jobs within the fast growing technology, healthcare, and finance industries,” said Dr. Andrew Chamberlain, Glassdoor Chief Economist. “In particular for tech jobs, companies across all industries are hiring workers for these needed positions, including employers in healthcare, finance, manufacturing, retail and more. Any organization today with a mobile app, web presence or digitized data are struggling to fill jobs like data scientists, software engineers and mobile developers.”

Glassdoor expanded its Best Jobs in America list to 50 jobs, up from 25 in 2016. Tech jobs make up 14 of Glassdoor’s 50 Best Jobs in America for 2017, more than any other specialty. New tech jobs to the list include Data Engineer (#3, 4.7) and UI Designer (#43, 4.0). There are seven healthcare jobs on the list, up from two in 2016. Physician (#34, 4.1) has the highest median annual base salary of $200,000, and Physical Therapist (#49, 4.0) has the highest number of current job openings at 24,579.

1Methodology: Glassdoor’s 50 Best Jobs in America report identifies specific jobs with the highest overall Glassdoor Job Score. The Glassdoor Job Score is determined by weighing three factors equally: earning potential (median annual base salary), overall job satisfaction rating, and number of job openings. Results represent job titles that rate highly among all three categories. The Glassdoor Job Score is based on a 5-point scale (5.0=best job, 1.0=bad job). For a job title to be considered, it must receive at least 100 salary reports and at least 100 job satisfaction ratings shared by U.S.-based employees over the past year (1/2/16-1/1/17). The number of job openings per job title represents active job listings on Glassdoor as of 1/1/17. This report takes into account job title normalization that groups similar job titles.
