Overview

As an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Pilot (UAV) for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC), you will support our clients and offices nationwide. Operations will include flying LiDAR, photogrammetry, video, and other sensors. As a UAS Technician, you are expected to align with CEC's commitment to safety, client first service, and client satisfaction. While the bulk of your work will be in PA, OH, and WV, UAS pilots cover projects across the country and are expected to travel to accomplish the missions. As an Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Technician for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC), you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing various mapping and inspection missions. You will manage all aspects of UAS missions, from pre-flight inspections, flight planning and execution, setting up the payload, UAS NOTAMs, and post-flight closeout procedures.

In this position, you will:
  • Plan flight operations with your lead pilot: prepare aircraft and accessories daily, coordinate regulatory permissions, and generate flight paths to properly collect aerial data
  • On-site preparation: validation of flights, set up sensors, set up necessary GPS survey equipment & aerial targets, and complete pre-flight checklists
  • Perform maintenance on aircrafts when necessary in the field or as directed in the shop.
  • Travel to locations across our company footprint flying multiple UAS types
  • Pack and ship aircraft and equipment and coordinate paperwork and transportation of goods
  • Verify that client training and drug testing has been completed prior to conducting UAS Data collection


Qualifications

  • 1 - 5 years experience as a UAV Pilot preferred but not required
  • Ability to work hands-on with UAS systems including assembly and disassembly, flight planning software, completing preflight checklist, and airworthiness evaluations.
  • Ability to assess, process, and react appropriately while handling emergency situations
  • Testing and troubleshooting abilities
  • Strong and consistent organizational skills, initiative, and communications skills to ensure timely project completion
  • Ability to travel 60-80% of the time
  • Ability to work long hours outdoors under various field conditions and exposure to traffic, heat, cold, and other adverse conditions
  • Ability to support additional field work with the land survey or confined space inspection groups as-needed
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass drug screening throughout your employment
  • Currently hold a FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot license or possess an ability to obtain a UAS pilot license

Recommended:
  • UAS related degree or certificate and/or Survey degree or certificate
  • Experience operating commercial UAS
  • Flight logbook showing previous UAS flight experience
  • Ability to evaluate the quality of acquired aerial data
  • Excellent RC piloting skills on both fixed-wing and multirotor aircrafts
  • Ability to comply with all policies and procedures developed for safety in dynamic environments
  • Civil Engineering, Optical Gas imaging, Magnetometer, and/or Surveying experience is a plus


Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of standing in outdoor environments
  • Ability to walk over various terrain to complete missions
  • Ability to work long periods including evenings and some weekends if required
  • Ability to operate outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
