DEA’s Energy Business Unit (EBU) seeks a dynamic, strategic leader to champion growth and to develop and lead market strategy in Oregon and Southwest Washington. This position provides leadership to DEA’s Energy Business which delivers comprehensive multidisciplinary services to power utility, renewable energy, data center, industrial, and federal clients. This senior leadership position reports to the Energy Business Leader/Vice President, Energy and is responsible for directing all energy business development activities within the region.

 

Key responsibilities include strategy development, business development, client relationship management, and coaching and mentoring Client Team Leaders to expand market share and drive profitable growth. The successful candidate will be involved in day-to-day management of business development and in collaboration with the Business Leader will lead near-term and long-term strategic planning to ensure the EBU achieves both short- and long-term goals.

 

This hybrid-friendly position can be based in DEA’s Portland, Salem, or Corvallis Office.

Market Leader responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop the regional strategic business plan for the energy market and work through assigned staff to successfully execute identified business initiatives
  • Develop, communicate, and implement market share growth plans based on a strong understanding of clients’ needs and competitors’ strengths and weaknesses
  • Develop strategies and provide leadership that is focused on business development, client acquisition, and growth along with building strong core capabilities among the team
  • Lead and participate in the development of qualifications, submittals, proposals, presentations, contract negotiations, marketing communications, conferences, and related activities
  • Oversee the go/nogo decision process for new pursuits
  • Identify, recruit, and retain key talent to support the growth and expansion of the EBU
  • Evaluate and present potential acquisitions that would be a strong fit for the DEA’s energy business
  • Leverage existing business relationships to create new opportunities and attract new clients
  • Responsible for regional sales results and managing business development costs in their market
  • Support and coach Client Team Leaders and build effective Client Teams; be responsible for the performance management of the Client Team Leaders
  • Drive agility throughout the EBU team to ensure that the business can quickly and appropriately identify, respond, and adapt to changes and improved methods of managing risk, pricing, and client relationships
  • Lead by example and demonstrate a team approach to achieving goals
  • Initiate and lead positive change in the organization, adapting strategies and approaches to suit external conditions and internal culture
  • Openly and proactively demonstrate adherence to the Company’s core ideology and values
  • May also serve as Principal-in-Charge, Client Team Leader, or Project Manager

 

Basic Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in the engineering and design sector
  • Minimum of 10 years of successful business leadership experience managing projects and developing client relationships in power delivery with specific experience in transmission, substation, or distribution
  • Must possess effective relationships with decision makers and influencers at power utilities within Oregon, Southwest Washington, and/or Pacific Northwest
  • Proven track record of securing professional services for power delivery in Oregon, Southwest Washington, and/or Pacific Northwest
  • Possess and exhibit deep business knowledge of the power delivery sector, as well as internal business processes and practices to optimize and add value to risk -based decision making
  • Recognized as an industry leader with a strong client focus and extensive network within the power delivery sector
  • Growth-oriented leader with the proven ability to develop and execute business strategies leading to profitable growth
  • Proven leadership skills with demonstrated successful experience managing staff, inspiring a team, and overseeing recruitment and retention
  • Ability to develop strong client relationships and expand markets and services
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional interpersonal skills at all levels
  • A dynamic, strategic, and decisive leader with the ability to motivate and inspire a team

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Existing relationships and experience with Bonneville Power Administration and/or Portland General Electric
  • Professional Engineer license (PE)
  • Experience negotiating contracts for Alternative Project Delivery (APD; e.g., Engineer-Procure-Construct) projects
